Representation (News Presenters):

In this post I will be listening to Capital FM and BBC Radio 4. I will be analysing how presenters talk when it comes to two completely different audiences. Capital FM is directed to a younger more family based audience whilst BBC Radio 4 is directed to an older audience. I will be listening out for the age, gender, language, tone of voice and interaction with out presenters. The reason I will be doing this is to help me write my radio script as well direct the actors in how to represent themselves according to my audience.

Capital FM:

The presenter for Capital FM is Marvin Humes who is a 29 year old male. Marvin spoke in a relaxed, informal and clear tone. He used slang words such as "lol" an abbreviation for laugh out loud when his co presenter made a joke.

BBC Radio 4

The presenter from BBC Radio 4 was a middle aged lady. She used formal words and used a powerful tone. The speed at which she as talking was slow, clear and calm.

Representations is a very important part on a radio station. BBC Radio 4 and Capital FM are two very different radio stations. They are aimed for completely different audiences. BBC Radio 4 is aimed at an older more sophisticated audience. Capital FM is aimed at a younger and family targeted audience. The fact that the lady in BBC Radio 4 is older and the news is presented in a more serious way show that representation is very important when targeting an audience.
